INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

The process of industrialization breaks away with traditional values and practices, and artisan production gives way to mass production. Mass, i.e. industrial production, which began in the second half of the 18th century, was focused on functionality and lower price of products, while esthetic modeling remained in the background. Industrial design was created from the need for esthetic shaping of products, adapting them to physical and psychological needs of the people. Industrial design is comprised of two-dimensional and three-dimensional appearance of objects in use or objects produced by people in different materials, technologies and styles. The goal of the Section of Industrial Design is to research, collect, protect, study and present exhibits that are crucial for historical development of industrial design in Serbia and the world, as well as to illuminate the collection of the Museum of Science and Technology from that perspective as well.
